Q:Who should participate in the Initiative for Cancer Survivorship Approached Naturally (I-CAN) study?

A: Those interested in taking the Perfect Health course AND participating in ground-breaking research, who also qualify to the following criteria:

  • Female Breast Cancer Survivor,
  • 18 Years of Age or Older,
  • and Who Live Within 125 Miles of the Chopra Center.

Eligible participants, once having completed the eligibility form, will attend the Perfect Health program while adhering to study requirements and assessments. Please review the Study Description for information regarding study requirements and assessments. Q: How can I participate in the Initiative for Cancer Survivorship Approached Naturally study?

A: In order to participate you must fit the eligibility criteria. If you feel you qualify after having reviewed the main points above, please email Lizzy Weiss, Chopra Foundation Research Associate, with the subject line: ICAN- Eligibility Form to research@chopra.com From here, Lizzy will be able to send you an eligibility form to ensure you fit the remainder of the inclusion/exclusion criteria for this study. If you do not qualify, and would like to support the study, we encourage you to find “SBTI” on the donation page of www.choprafoundation.org. All funds directed to SBTI are in efforts to help finance research initiatives the Chopra Center and Chopra Foundation endorse to bring scientific evidence to ancient wisdom and teachings.
 

Q: What is involved in participation?

A: Participation in the Initiative for Cancer-Survivorship Approached Naturally study requires certain responsibilities such as:

  • physiological assessments,
  • blood draws,
  • psychological questionnaires

among other assessments that may be conducted. You will NOT be paid for your participation, but the study week will be funded for you should you be eligible to participate. Please keep in mind there is a time commitment which includes but is not limited to: the study dates on-site (TBD, 2016), and a one month follow up in person (TBD, 2016). Questionnaires before, during, and after the study may take additional time.
 

Q: When and where is this study taking place?

A: The Initiative for Cancer-Survivorship Approached Naturally study will take place on TBD, 2016 at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, CA.
 

Q:Is there a cost to participate?

A: No, there is no cost to participate in this study. The Perfect Health program fee will be funded for you by the Chopra Foundation, independent fundraising campaigns and donors/sponsors. The only direct cost to you is the time commitment involved as described in Question 3, in addition to any costs associated with travel expenses to the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, CA from the surrounding Southern California county area in which you are traveling from.
 
Any added services (such as supplementary massages or ancillary services) and/or gratuities for services (such as massage) will also be at your own expense. In other words, these additional services and/or gratuities will not be included in your funded Perfect Health program. A credit card on file is mandatory for any incidentals that may occur during your stay at Omni La Costa resort and Spa in Carlsbad, CA. Incidentals are at participants’ own expense. All other costs associated with the study such as: Hotel accommodations, Perfect Health Program, and meals will be provided for you by the Chopra Foundation and donors/sponsors.
 

Q: What personal results can be expected, and what will happen with the data?

A: There may or may not be any direct benefit to you from these procedures. The investigator(s), however, may learn more about the effect of participating in the Initiative for Cancer-Survivorship Approached Naturally study group on psychological and physical health. Personal results may be requested but not guaranteed. Dependent upon the personal results you receive, results may not be returned until 6-24 months after the study dates. Aggregate results of those who have participated in the Initiative for Cancer-Survivorship Approached Naturally study will be published at a future date (TBD) in a scientific journal. These findings will be announced to individuals who have participated in the Initiative for Cancer-Survivorship Approached Naturally study. In other words, participants and others will get final data in the form of a publication but may not receive all their individual results. Any and all data will be presented anonymously in the published article and stored in a confidential database.
