The Effects of Grounding on Well-Being
Grounding the human body reduces the electrostatic charge on the body and returns it to Earth’s potential. Peer-reviewed studies of this phenomenon, sometimes called “earthing”, demonstrate beneficial effects including improved mood, decreased blood urea concentrations during exercise, increased surface charge on red blood cells and decreased aggregation, improved heart rate variability, decreased night-time levels of cortisol, increased blood flow, and decreased blood oxygenation variances, amongst others.
In collaboration with the Earthing Institute, the Chopra Foundation is conducting a randomized blinded study examining the effects of grounding on the health and wellbeing of massage therapists. This 6-week intervention, with a 3-month follow-up, is examining effects on mood, fatigue, pain, circulating inflammatory biomarkers, blood viscosity, and heart rate variability.
